10 Day Adventure

East Arm Glacier Bay, West Arm Glacier Bay, Lituya Bay

Itinerary of the trip is dictated by weather, wildlife and whim.

Day 1: Meet 8:00 AM at Bartlett Cove. Board the MV Sea Wolf. We will assemble in the main salon for introductions, an orientation discussing safety, boat layout, amenities and your Alaskan adventure.

We will cruise across Icy Strait and head around Cape Spencer to Lituya Bay, about a 7-hour journey filled with incredible vistas, wildlife on the beaches and acrobatic whales in the waters. Along the way we will learn about the natural history of this wild outer coast and its inhabitants. Lunch on board. Once we are anchored up in Lituya bay we'll launch our skiffs for a beach exploration of the beautiful spits, coastal meadows and fossil laden cliffs. We will also lower our shrimp pots in hopes of catching succulent shrimp to add to our Dungeness crab feast! Then dinner and an evening spent exploring the natural history through Native stories. 3 –4 days spent exploring this rich eco-region.

We will explore the island and bay from kayak looking for brown bears, foxes, wolves and birds. Eagles soar across this bay and puffins guillomets and cormorants nest on the cliffs of Centotaph Island. On shore we will hike up the side of the glaciers and explore along the rivers and glacial till. Fossils, trade beads and specks of gems abound along these beaches just wanting for discovery and photography. An all day “Botany & Wildlife” hike to the Mining Camp and Rogue wave shear area with a pack lunch is a terrific adventure.

Then it will be Farewell to Lituya Bay as we cruise back down the coast past La Perouse Glacier and cruise back around Cape Spencer to Dundas Bay. There we will have a kayak exploration of a bay that is home to brown and black bears, moose and wolves. A little halibut fishing for some and a beach stroll for others before another gourmet dinner and shared stories. Then up we head for the next several days to the Magnificent Glaciers of the East and West Arm exploring the land and the sea. This is a wondrous land of plant and animal succession. Here you see barren lands scraped by the glaciers to rich eco systems just developing. Whlaes, Sea Lions, Orca’s, Birds galore, bears and wolves all abound I this area.

Our last day we are off to look for more spectacular humpback whales. Our day is spent watching whales and, weather permitting, kayaking with them. Around 2:00 pm we will head back to Gustavus where you will be picked up at the dock by TLC Taxi and taken to the airport or your lodging.

These itineraries are subject to change based on park closures/openings, weather and travel conditions and wildlife movements.
